Verify a DNA Test by Double Checking

The laboratory we use for our DNA testing is highly reliable. However, some people want to make sure there was no error or fraud in a DNA test report, from our company or from any other company or source. This page tells you how you can double check independently by yourself.

A good way is just to go to a Thai government laboratory, such as at the Police Hospital in Bangkok, or Ramathibodi Hospital, or Chulalongkorn Hospital, or Siriraj Hospital, and do another test with all participants.

However, if it is difficult to get all the participants together for another test, or if you just want to check using only your own DNA, then you can request a "CODIS profile" of your own DNA from another laboratory, and it should match the data for yourself in our DNA test report.

Most DNA testing laboratories which we know about test the standard "CODIS" locations on DNA for DNA relationship testing, such as for submissions to governments and courts for various purposes based on the standard. (A location on DNA is called a "locus", and plural for locus in English is "loci". CODIS is "Combined DNA Index System", originally established in the USA as a standard, and then used worldwide. Some commercial laboratories maintain their own private databases. However, large databases of human DNA are available for calculating probabilities of relationships.)

For example, on the page in this website on how DNA testing works, which explains how to read a DNA test report, it shows a sample DNA test report, whereby CODIS loci are included in the column "Locus":

The so-called "CODIS" locations ("loci") are listed on the left,
D8S1179
D21S11
D7S820
... etc.

If you are the mother, Jane, then when you look at the column under your name, where you can see that you have "alleles" of 10 and 14 at locus D8S1179, alleles of 27 and 29 at locus D21S11, alleles of 8 and 10 at locus D7S820, and so on. If you go alone to another laboratory, i.e., without the child or father present for testing, and ask for a CODIS DNA profile for only yourself, then on the CODIS profile they give you, you can look for locus D8S1179 to see whether or not it also reports 10 and 14, then look for locus D21S11 to see whether or not it reports 27 and 29, then look at D7S820 to see whether or not it reports 8 and 10, and so on down the list. The results should match.

(On our reports, if there is only one number, such as 11, then on another report there might be two identical numbers 11 and 11. The reason for this is explained in another page of our website on how DNA testing works where it discusses a so-called "homozygote" where the two alleles are identical, and different reporting standards for homozygotes.)

You can use our company as either your first or second source. In other words, if you have already done a test with another company, then you could use our company to double check the results. We are economical. Alternatively, if you tested with us, then you could go to another reputable provider to test again. The two tests should match in the data profiles for each locus which both laboratories test. If they don't, then go to a third company, and look at their test data to see which of the other two companies it matches.

IMPORTANT: If you test with another company, too, then do NOT show them any other DNA test report. If they are a tricky company, then they could just copy the results of that test report. You should privately compare the two reports yourself.
